| NCCATS Lake Norman Catfish Tournament Results For January 20, 2007 It started out a cold and windy morning but it warmed up to turn out to be a pretty nice day and it also proved to be a pretty nice day of fishing too. Lots of teams caught fish and there were some nice fish caught. First Place went to George Logan of Winston-Salem, NC and Scott Griffin of Advance, NC with a 5 fish winning stringer weighing in at 68.90 pounds and they won $520.00. Second Place went to Mac Byrum, Jr. of Denver, NC and Dieter Melhorn of Gastonia, NC with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 58.00 pounds and they won $300.00. Third Place went to Tracy Setzer and Omar Edwards both of Claremont, NC with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 55.25 lbs and the won $200.00. Fourth Place went to Jerry Hildebran of Sherrill's Ford, NC and Kevin Custer of Statesville, NC with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 54.60 pounds and they won $100.00. Big Fish went to Tracy Setzer and Omar Edwards with a flathead catfish weighing in at 31.60 pounds and they won $160.00. | NCCATS-Stanly County CVB Lake Tillery Catfish Tournament Results 02/03/07 It was a very cold and brisk morning to start off and then the wind got up to around 15 mph. 22 teams come out despite the frigid weather to put their catfishing skills to the test. It made conditions tough to fish in but some of the teams managed to bring some very nice fish in to the scales. The bait of choice seemed to be gizzard shad. Teams seem to have found fish around the 20 to 30 foot mark. The water was very muddy and there was a slight current today. First Place went to Joe Montaigne of Statesville and Chris Kerley of Troutman with a 5 fish winning stringer weighing in at 80.15 pounds and won $1,100.00. Stanly County Convention & Visitors Bureau sponsored this tournament guaranteeing First Place at $1,000.00. Second Place went to Chris Fraley and Jim Fraley both of Mount Holly with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 72.40 pounds and won $540.00. Third Place went to Mike Munday and Mike Woods both of Statesville with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 38.35 pounds and won $400.00. Fourth Place went to Jeff Cole of Asheboro and Marshall Epps, Jr. of Star with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 35.25 pounds and won $300.00. Fifth Place went to Robert Tomasek of Stanfield with a 2 fish stringer weighing in at 27.75 pounds and won $200.00. Big Fish went to Chris Fraley and Jim Fraley with a 51.05 pound blue cat and won $220.00 plus a $150.00 gift card sponsored by God's Country Outfitters in Albemarle on highway 52. |

| NCCATS Mtn. Island Lake Tournament Results 02-17-07 It was a freezing 18 degrees this morning with the wind blowing around 10 mph to start out the tournament and ended around 42 degrees with the wind around 20 mph making conditions very rough for NCCATS fisherman. There were only 14 teams that come out to test their skills knowing some stayed at their warm and cozy homes. Today's winners used cut shad and the bites weren't too numerous. The winners fished depths of 8 feet to around 20 feet. Fish seemed to be scattered and were hard to mark due to the fish that were caught seemed to have muddy bellies. Muddy bellies meant that they were dug in trying to keep warm in the cold waters. Results First Place went to Rodney Kerley of Troutman and Curtis Winslow of Huntersville with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 48.35 pounds and won $500.00. Second Place was a tie between Jerry Hildebran of Sherrills Ford and Kevin Custer of Statesville fishing as a team and Tracy Setzer, Chris Setzer and Omar Edwards all from Claremont. Hildebran and Custer weighed in 5 fish and Setzer, Setzer and Edwards weighing in 3 fish. Both teams tied weighing in at 46.40 pounds and the split second and third place money which give both teams $240.00 a piece. Big Fish went to the team of Tracy Setzer, Chris Setzer and Omar Edwards weighing in a blue cat at 27.60 pounds and the won $140.00. |
| NCCATS BADIN LAKE TOURNAMENT RESULTS 03-17-07 Conditions for the tournament were rough. It was cold and very windy during the tournament for the most part. Winds were around 15 to 25 mph and the high for the day was around 53 degrees. With the wind blowing so hard it sure made the temperatures feel like it was in the mid 30's. Despite the conditions there teams to test their skills for Badin Lake's catfish. Talk at the scales was that only the little one's were biting for most of the teams and that gizzard shad was the bait of choice. RESULTS First Place went to the team of Lonnie White and Phil Leonard both of Stanley with a 5 fish winning stringer of blue and channel cats that weighed in at 65.20 pounds and won $1,110.00. $1,000.00 of the first place money was sponsored by the Stanly County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Second Place went to the team of Chris Fraley of Mt. Holly and Dennis Leonard of Stanley with a stringer weighing in at 48.75 pounds and won $600.00. Third Place went to the team of Robert Tomasek of Stanfield and Michael Chandler of Midland with a stringer weighing in at 48.00 pounds and won $400.00. Fourth Place went to Joe Montaigne of Statesville and Stephen Upright of Cleveland with a stringer weighing in at 30.20 pounds and won $300.00. Fifth Place went to Chris Hammill of Kannapolis with a stringer weighing in at 25.40 pounds and won $200.00. Big Fish of the tournament went to the team of Lonnie White and Phil Leonard with a blue cat weighing in at 45.00 pounds and won $230.00 and a $150.00 gift card sponsored by God's Country Outfitters in Albemarle. | 04/21/07 NCCATS Lake Norman Catfish Tournament Results It was a night that you couldn't ask any better for fishing weather at night. It was calm and wasn't too cold or too hot. The fisherman at the scales were saying that they couldn't get a bite and some said that they got bites but they were getting the light bites. Most fisherman said they caught their fish on cut shad and fishing 20 to 30 feet deep. RESULTS First Place went to Mike Munday and Mike Woods both of Statesville with a stringer weighing in at 39.75 pounds and winning $660.00. Second Place went to Rodney Kerley of Troutman and Curtis Winslow of Huntersville with a stringer weighing in at 39.60 pounds and winning $330.00. Third Place went to Lonnie White and Phil Leonard both of Stanley with a stringer weighing in at 39.45 pounds and winning $170.00. Fourth Place went to Tracy Setzer and Chris Setzer both of Claremont with a stringer weighing in at 33.85 pounds and winning $100.00. | 04/28/07 NCCATS Lake Hickory Tournament Results Lake Hickory proved once again that the fishery is growing with another lake record catch made by Kevin Custer and his daughter Mackenzie with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 54.45 pounds. The talk at the scales was everyone seemed to catch a number of fish but just couldn't get them in the boat. The bait used was cut shad and bream. The winners trolled baits on the bottom while some fisherman drifted and anchored their baits. Kevin Custer said he got bites all night long and was catching nice average fish pretty much the whole night. Kevin and Mackenzie Custer set yet another record on Lake Hickory making it the fourth consecutive Lake Hickory catfish tournament for the record catch being broken. Results First Place and New Lake Hickory Record stringer went to Kevin Custer and Mackenzie Custer both of Statesville with a stringer weighing in at 54.45 pounds and winning $620.00. Second Place went to Randy Reinhardt of Catawba, Tony Hollar and T.W. Hollar both of Claremont with a stringer weighing in at 48.85 pounds and winning $310.00. Third Place went to Jeff Shook and Teresa Huffman both of Claremont with a stringer weighing in at 41.55 pounds and winning $160.00. Fourth Place went to Robbie Byers and Robert Byers both of Denver with a stringer weighing in at 41.40 pounds and winning $100.00. | 05/12/07 NCCATS Badin Lake Tournament Results Storms in and around the area just before tournament hours threatened the sky's but it turned out to be very nice fishing weather. Talk at the scales from anglers seemed that everyone caught fish. The money winning teams fished depths anywhere from 30 feet to 5 feet using cut bait and live bait. Baits of choice were bream, white perch, gold fish and gizzard shad. Results First Place went to the father and son team of Tracy and Chris Setzer both of Claremont with a 5 fish stringer of blues and flatheads weighing in at 83.00 pounds and winning $1,040.00. $1,000.00 of the First Place winnings was sponsored by the Stanly County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Second Place went to Jim Davisson of Mount Pleasant with a stringer weighing in at 69.60 pounds and winning $700.00. Third Place went to Rodney Kerley of Troutman and Curtis Winslow of Huntersville with a stringer weighing in at 62.90 pounds and winning $400.00. Fourth Place went to Wayne Estes of Statesville and Spencer Hodges of Hamptonville with a stringer weighing in at 59.40 pounds and winning $250.00. | 05-26-07 NCCATS High Rock Lake Catfish Tourney Results There were 24 teams that came to High Rock Lake near Salisbury at the Dutch Second Creek public boat access to test their skills and what a test it was. A NEW LAKE RECORD was set at this tournament by Joe Montaigne of Statesville and Chris Kerley of Troutman set the New Lake Record weighing in 5 flatheads at a total of 166.25 pounds. The old record was set by Gene Lemmings and Scott Briggs both of Lexington in May of 2005 with a weight of 157.98 pounds. The weather was hot and humid during the day and very nice and calm during the night. Many anglers weighed in fish. The talk at the scales was that many caught fish but mostly channel cats were caught which are the smaller cats in the lake. The big flatheads showed up and a big show it was. Results First Place and New Lake Record For 5 Fish went to Joe Montaigne of Statesville and Chris Kerley of Troutman with a winning stringer of 166.25 pounds and winning $820.00. Second Place went to Chris Fraley of Mount Holly and Dennis Leonard of Stanley with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 154.15 pounds and winning $410.00. Third Place went to Gene Lemmings and Scott Briggs both of Lexington with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 135.80 pounds and winning $200.00. | 06/23/07 NCCATS Lake Hickory Catfish Tournament Results 14 teams came out to test their skills for the record growing catfish of Lake Hickory. The weather was hot and sticky but overnight turned out pretty cool with a slight breeze and a slight drizzle of rain. There wasn't a record catch but the big ones still showed up at the scales. The angler's caught their fish with cut shad and using live and cut bream also in a depth around 20 to 40 ft through the night. Results First Place went to the team of Wayne Estes of Statesville & Spencer Hodges of Hamptonville with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 35.70 pounds and winning $530.00. Second Place went to the father and son team of Tracy & Chris Setzer both of Claremont with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 32.30 pounds and winning $270.00. Third Place went to the team of Kevin Custer & Kevin Morrison both of Statesville with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 30.50 pounds and winning $180.00. | 8/18/07 NCCATS High Rock Lake Tourney Results It was a hot, steamy and windy evening to start off the tournament and 16 teams come to test their skills on the infamous flathead catfish lurking in High Rock Lake. The money winning teams used baits such as bream, white perch and gold fish for bait. They fished in depths of 4 feet to 12 feet of water. The talk at the scales was that everyone seemed to get bites and caught fish but just couldn't get a hold of a big one. Results First Place went to Jeff Deason and Leon Bare both of Kannapolis with a winning 5 fish stringer weighing in at 148.25 pounds and won $550.00. Second Place went to Joe Montaigne of Statesville and Chris Kerley of Troutman with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 141.50 pounds and won $300.00. Third Place went to Rodney Kerley of Troutman and Curtis Winslow of Huntersville with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at 120.40 pounds and won $170.00.
